March Update - Mercy and Hope

I thought I’d give the next update on Gage and his cancer journey. Bear with me…I’m not nearly as skilled at this as Coalt, but he has been extra busy with church and school responsibilities. We visited Mayo Clinic at the beginning of March for Gage’s MRI to see how the disease around his eyes looks. In December we learned that the spots had not improved and actually had maybe grown just a bit. That was discouraging but we are realizing that that might be the way of this…from scan to scan we might see increase or decrease and our goal is to “manage” the disease over the long-haul. This time we were encouraged. The doctor and radiologist used the word “stable” to describe the spots. It hasn’t gotten worse, and maybe in a couple of spots it has decreased in size! The doctor opted not to add in another drug that had been discussed. She did increase the dose of his current medicine just because he’s a much bigger boy than he was a year ago. He has grown so much! All in all the report was encouraging, and we will go back again in 3 months.

I’ve been thinking about mercy and hope. In Kindergarten we recently studied the Bible story of the Ten Lepers. Those sick men needed mercy from Jesus for their physical disease. They put their hope in Jesus…and Jesus healed them! The undeserved kindness of the Lord is astounding. I am truly thankful that we can put our hope in Him and he bestows his mercy to us. It isn’t always the healing or answer we hope or expect. But God walks us through each day, each appointment, each challenge, each difficulty with his mercy and grace. “Thank you, Jesus”. I want to be like the one leper who came back to say “Thank you”.

Thank you to you all for your continued support and prayers. We are truly grateful.
